Photography outing at Singapore Garden Festival

Photography outing at Singapore Garden Festival

July 18, 2010  |  Blog

Ever since my first visit to the Singapore Garden Festival back in 2008, i told myself that i definitely should return to the event, which takes place once every two years. Back then, i went in with a Canon EOS 40D and EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L but this year, i downgraded then lens to a 50mm f/2.5 compact macro and upgraded the camera to Canon EOS 5D.

Also in my camera bag was the recently-purchased ring light.

The image above was taken with the ring light and I absolutely love the glow of the flower, which was isolated in black due to poor ambient lighting.

Here’s another composition:

There were some post-processing done to this shot to remove unwanted ‘bokeh’ lights behind the flower. Times like these I envy people who have their EF 100mm f/2.8 L, so that they need to go so upclose to the flowers. This is how un-glam i look like taking the shot:

Was quite sure i heard quite a few ‘tsk’ when photographing the flowers.

Any way, back to the shots. Here are more shots from the outing:

If you read my recent post on photographers who influenced me most, you will find this shot familiar.

Also, there were some interesting bonzai plants with miniature clay figurines.

Ok i ran out of flower pics to share… here’s some random ones
