The ugly truth about Hasselblad

March 26, 2011  |  Blog  |  2 Comments

I just got my 60mm and 120mm back from cleaning and felt the need to bring some balance to my love for Hasselblad. Like many other brands of cameras, there are a lot a lot a lot of hidden charges, especially when you are buying second-hand lenses and bodies.

Winners of IPA ONE SHOT Landscape photography competition

March 23, 2011  |  Blog  |  No Comments

[vimeo]http://vimeo.com/20942452[/vimeo] I am a big fan of the International Photography Awards since 2009. The quality of the photography submissions is simply amazing and I find myself learning a lot. And thanks to the really steep entry fees, you find that people think really hard and submit only their best works for this competition.

My approach to dance photography

March 22, 2011  |  Blog  |  4 Comments

I was slightly disturbed over the weekend when somebody said it is so easy to photograph dance photography. You simply park your camera there, take as many photos as possible and there's bound to be a good shot. It only it was that easy. Before I go on, may I point out that I am no expert in this field. Furthest  I have gone with dance photography is an honorable mention at the 2009 International Photography Awards for my series on Afro Carribean Salsa Shines. More images of Punggol: Annoyed with Vuescan and Silverfast

March 8, 2011  |  Blog  |  7 Comments

I am majorly annoyed with Vuescan and Silverfast. Technically I should be annoyed with Kodak Ektar 100 too but the film is giving me way too psychedelic/awesome color I could ever hope for in a shot so it is spared from my wrath. The shot above you see is scanned using Vuescan. Now take a look at the one below, scanned with Silverfast.

Epson V700 & Vuescan vs Fotohub $13 lab scans

March 5, 2011  |  Blog  |  2 Comments

So I got myself an Epson V700 from a fellow Clubsnapper at a very good price (620 instead of 900 first hand). It makes sense that I put in some effort to run some tests and justify the purchase.

The image above is scanned and enhanced using contrast, curves (exposure) and high pass filter (sharpening).

Read on to see how that fare against a typical SGD 13 lab scan from fotohub.

Punggol outing

March 1, 2011  |  Blog  |  10 Comments

Just collected my roll of Ektar 100 film from fotohub. Very pleased with this long exposure shot of mine. Hasselblad 501 CM + 60mm f/3.5 CF T* with Kodak Ektar 100. If i did not remember wrongly, the exposure is 128 seconds at f/11. As for the rest... hmm... I'll upload them when I get home later tonight. Epson V700 is coming home.
