Sony USB Portable Power Supply and Giveaway!

March 6, 2012  |  Blog  |  No Comments

If you read my blog often enough, you will know that I like to do a lot of night photography. Very often, I set my exposures up to 30 minutes, which can be a real pain in the ass standing in the dark and doing nothing.

To kill time, I surf a lot of Facebook, Twitter and 9Gag on my phone to while waiting for the 30-minute exposure to end.

Getting a photo showcased and the shoot-less weekend

February 20, 2012  |  Blog  |  No Comments

I get very annoyed with myself when I don't spend enough time shooting.

The only two photo-related takeaways from last weekend was knowing that one of my photos from the Salsa series got exhibited at Orchard ION.

It has been a while since I last used a Mamiya AFD (4x3 format) to photograph Punggol.

Spending the weekend with the Sony Nex-7

February 12, 2012  |  Blog  |  No Comments

After what was a crazy week at work, I finally had the time to head out with the Nex-7.

There camera was a sheer joy to use, largely because of the ease-of-handling of the camera. Every switch and button was within the reach of my right thumb and index finger and that really means a lot for me.

I'm not exactly street photography material but here are some snapshots taken over the weekend with the kit lens.

Just a portrait of a colleague, taken with the Sony Nex-7 and 50mm f/1.8

February 8, 2012  |  Blog  |  No Comments

Believe it or not, this was taken outdoors with nothing but ambient light. Not even a reflector.

It was my second day with the Sony Nex-7 and I wanted to try out the 50mm f/1.8 that came along with the camera. So I decided to grab my colleague Duane, who was pretty much stoned from all the late hours of work as my test subject of the day.

Helps that he looks a tad like Arsenal footballer Thiery Henry.

Back to Little India after four years

January 29, 2012  |  Blog  |  No Comments

When I got started with photography, I regarded Little India as my training ground of sorts to improve my craft.

Armed with a Yashica GSN (rangefinder for poor people like me), I walked around the streets to talk to people and ask for their permission to take a portrait of them. It was a very rewarding time for me back then as I had learn a lot in terms of approaching your subjects.

Fast forward four years later, I was having midnight coffee with a few friends on Chinese New Year day and we decided to hit the streets of Little India for a short photo walk.

Don’t do things that you wouldn’t like others doing the same to you

Lina Goldberg of My Big Fat Face is a food blogger based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In her most recent blog entry, she recalled how one annoying tourist (with a DSLR) treated a local lady trying to sell flowers. Instead of buying anything from the local, this unnamed tourist basically treated her like some exotic animal and took photos non-stop.
