How to post-process this Star Search photo

October 11, 2010  |  Blog  |  No Comments

This photo is one of my two submitted for the Star Search photo contest. It is actually a composite made up of two photos. The tunnel is one of several locations allocated to the photographers to photograph the contestants in anyway we like. However, i am not a big fan of the location. Unlike other contestants who brought assistants and a luggage of strobes, i chose to go into this competition with my Mamiya 645, my trusty Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod and Yanliang's Canon EOS 5DII + 24-105mm f4 as back up. That means that i do not have the luxury of being able to light up the damn tunnel with strobes.

Bought my Canon Powershot S95

September 12, 2010  |  Blog  |  2 Comments

After several DSLR purchases and three medium format camera (with two digital backs) later, I finally bought a digi-cam for the first time in my life. Kinda ridiculous yeah? But all along i have been using/borrowing others' digi-cam to do the not-important-enough-to-use-dslr occasions. With the Canon Powershot S95, i figured the time was right to finally get one. Some random shots. I won't be doing a thorough review because there already are excellent reviews out there. All images are straight out of the camera and only resizing on PS was done.

The name of the TVC is called 'Find your own angle'. Personally i don't mind keeping a 60D as a general walkaround camera to compliment my film setup.

iPhone with a DSLR lens

iPhone with a DSLR lens

July 9, 2010  |  News  |  No Comments

Just saw this on cyberspace. I highly doubt i will sell my Canon 5D and spend the rest of my life shooting with this setup, though it is an interesting thought to pair the iPhone4 with a macro lens for flower shooting. Hmmmmm. What do you think?

[DIY] Framing your own photos for $20

[DIY] Framing your own photos for $20

May 3, 2010  |  Blog  |  3 Comments

Ever since my Shooting Home 2009 Reunion Show exhibition, i became interested in making my own prints and hanging them proudly in my house. Sadly, i only managed to get my ass working on one such print today. But instead of keeping the experience of creating a (print + framing) to myself, i decided to put my entire experience into this post. Take note, i spent no more than $20 bucks on the print but that's not taking into consideration of transport.

Downsizing a flagship camera… wtf

February 21, 2010  |  Blog  |  No Comments

When was the last time you heard of a camera maker phasing out a powerful DSLR and replace it with a weaker one? Look no further than Sony Alpha. In phasing out the Sony Alpha-900, they made the lesser Alpha-850 their flagship DSLR instead. Erm.. wtf?

February 12, 2010  |  Features  |  No Comments

Not too long ago, i decided to find out what affects consumer behavior where buying DSLRs is concerned. My theory is that social media has a genuine impact on consumer behavior and more resources should be directed to that effort.

February 11, 2010  |  Blog  |  1 Comment

After two days, I'm still buzzing over Nikon's launch of the 16-35mm f/4 VR. If i was a Nikon user, i'd fancy owning a d700/d3 with this gem and a 50mm f/1.4 That's all i will ever need...
